Here is a round-up of the outcome of today’s primary contests that affect the East Hampton and East Haddam readership areas, in part based on HTNP figures, unofficial returns and Associated Press reports as of 11:30 p.m.

Official results should be posted on Wednesday (Aug. 15) on the CT Secretary of the State’s Web site at http://www.sots.ct.gov/sots/cwp/view.asp?a=3&Q=415810&sotsNav=|

Many town Web sites also will post local results.

In the U.S. Senate GOP Primary…

Linda McMahon beat Christopher Shays to become the GOP U.S. Senate candidate.

Shays reportedly has promised to support McMahon’s race against the now official Democratic candidate, Rep. Chris Murphy – who won the primary over opponent Susan Bysiewicz.

McMahon and Murphy will now vie for the vacancy left by retiring U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman, an Independent.

In the U.S. Senate Democratic Primary…

Chris Murphy, a three-term Congressman and former state legislator, beat former Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz. (No numbers available at this posting. Race called by the Associated Press.)

In the U.S. House District 2 GOP Primary…

East Lyme First Selectman Paul Formica wins over Daria Novak with a total vote of 10,160 for Formica versus 4,980 for Novak.

He now challenges Democratic incumbent Congressman Joe Courtney for the Nov. 6 election (there was no Democratic primary in this race).

Connecticut’s 2nd Congressional District includes East Haddam  and East Hampton and 62 other towns in the eastern part of the state.

In the State Senate District 33 Dem Primary…

James Crawford beats Mary Ellen Klinck – see the HTNP story on East Hampton Today and East Haddam Today sites.

Results were still be tabulated as of this posting.
