East Hampton historic house tour Sept 29 spotlights Bevin Bells

This year’s historic house tour organized by the Chatham Historical Society of East Hampton will shine a spotlight on the Bevin Brothers Bell Co., which is hoping to rebuild after a lightning strike caused a fire that burned the landmark factory to the ground.

The tour also will celebrate the artworks of recently-deceased East Hampton artist Katherine Berlin.

The tour, which is held biennially, is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012.

A selection of 18th and 19th century homes East Hampton homes will be open to visitors, each with rich history, architecture, special features and collections.

Also on the tour will be the recently restored Comstock Bridge where visitors can learn more about its history, construction and the “Legend of the Ghost.” Light refreshments will be provided there.

Tickets are on sale now at the town clerk’s office at Town Hall and at the East Hampton Public Library. The day of the tour, tickets may be purchased at the museum at 6 Bevin Boulevard.
