Courtney announces $94 million EB contract to repair USS Miami

Congressman Joe Courtney today (Sept. 14) released the following statement after the U.S. Navy awarded a $94 million contract to Groton, CT-based Electric Boat (EB) for advanced planning and material efforts in support of repairs to the USS Miami:

“The Navy’s decision to award Electric Boat the prime contract for the USS Miami repairs is the right decision for our nation’s defense. This work is not a normal repair job, but rather a drastic overhaul of the burnt-out innards of this critical vessel. As the builder of the Miami, the talented men and women of Electric Boat are uniquely suited to take on this challenge,” Courtney said.

“Three years ago, EB took on a similar task, replacing the torn sail of the USS Hartford – and did it ahead of schedule and under budget. Having worked with Admiral Kevin McCoy of Sea Systems Command to help direct repair work to EB workers in Groton and on the road for the past four years, it is clear to me that the Navy and the U.S. taxpayer will get their money’s worth.”
