CT State Police report that the remains found with the aid of police dogs on Friday in Trumbull near the Bridgeport line is the body of the missing Eastern Connecticut State University student Alyssiah Wiley.

Police also say they have arrested a suspect in connection with her death, a 30-year-old man, Jermaine Richards, of Bridgeport.

Police say they found evidence linked to Wiley in Richards’ home. He has been charged with murder and kidnapping.

Channel 3 news reported tonight (May 18) that Richards’ home is about two miles from where Wiley’s body was found.

Wiley, 20, was reported missing from school on April 24 – four days after she told friends she was going home.

Since then, police followed leads connected with a black Nissan Altima caught on a campus surveillance camera. The car was later found near the Bridgeport-Fairfield town line.

Search activities then focused in that area.

Richards is now being held on a $2 million bond and is due to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Monday, May 20, according to State Police spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance.

Wiley’s body was taken to the state’s medical examiner to determine the cause of death.
