First Church of Christ Congregational, East Haddam hosts its very popular annual Quilt and Needle Arts Show this Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 12-13.
The show features more than 100 exhibits of beautiful and unique, hand-crafted quilts and needlecrafts.
The quilts create a dramatic kaleidoscope of color inside the historic 1794 meetinghouse designed by famed architect Lavius Filmore. The graceful structure features a flying pulpit, star-spangled domed ceiling and many blown-glass window panes, which flood the interior with light to better display the intricate pattern of the quilts.
The show historically has drawn exhibitors and visitors from across New England and also features a boutique of jewelry, craft and quilt supplies.
A café will be open throughout the show selling homemade soups, pies and other desserts and beverages.
The show hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at, 499 Town St., East Haddam, CT. Admission is only $5 and all proceeds benefit First Church.
A highlight of the show will be the Sunday afternoon raffle drawing for a machine-pieced, hand-quilted “Starlight Compass” quilt by Betty Haines.
“This is a great opportunity to learn about quilting or to just appreciate the quilts for the works of art and family history that they are. There’s a lot of talent on display here,” Haines said.
