The East Haddam Ambulance Association at 440 Town Street is seeking new volunteers to add to their team. The group is currently working hard to recruit Emergency Medical Technicians and Emergency Medical Responders. All training is provided by the association, and no previous experience is necessary.
In 1968, the year the association was formed, volunteer EMTs responded to 86 calls. As the town grows larger, more EMTs are needed to meet the increase in calls, which have risen to 526 as of last year. The growing need isn’t expected to slow down anytime soon, either. The rate of ambulance calls is expected to grow anywhere from five to ten percent per year in the next five years.
Volunteers who work with the association will be trained in basic life support and how to respond quickly and effectively in an emergency situation.
