Coming up in East Haddam, the Serendipity Auction

The eighth annual Serendipity Auction is coming up on Saturday, Nov. 9.  The auction is hosted by St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, at 31 Main St., East Haddam.  Auction items this year include theater tickets, gift cards from many local restaurants, professional services, sports-related items, themed gift baskets, and much more.

In case you missed the exhibition in September, I-Park – Connecticut’s premier artists’ residency program, located in East Haddam – is offering another opportunity.

Join us this weekend, rain or shine, as we re-open our grounds to the general public.

Enjoy a self-directed trail walk, including a boat ride, to view the works created for I-Park’s 2013 Environmental Art Biennale (the fourth in a series).

It will be a month since the opening – the colors and sounds will have changed, as will the ephemeral installations themselves.

East Haddam residents invited to join Sunrise State Park cleanup Oct 27

Coordinating community support will be critical to establish a Friends group, which will advocate for the Park long into the future.”

State Rep. Melissa Ziobron (R-34) and State Sen. Art Linares (R-33) invite area residents to join them for a community cleanup of Sunrise State Park from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013.

Area residents are asked to come dressed to help pick up litter and debris from the park.  Delicious chili, soup and sandwiches will be provided to volunteers courtesy of Moodus Sportsmen’s Club following the cleanup.

The legislators’ Sep. 25 meeting to discuss the future of the property attracted more than 80 residents.

First Church of Christ Congregational, East Haddam hosts its very popular annual Quilt and Needle Arts Show this Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 12-13.

The show features more than 100 exhibits of beautiful and unique, hand-crafted quilts and needlecrafts.

The quilts create a dramatic kaleidoscope of color inside the historic 1794 meetinghouse designed by famed architect Lavius Filmore. The graceful structure features a flying pulpit, star-spangled domed ceiling and many blown-glass window panes, which flood the interior with light to better display the intricate pattern of the quilts.

The show historically has drawn exhibitors and visitors from across New England and also features a boutique of jewelry, craft and quilt supplies.

A café will be open throughout the show selling homemade soups, pies and other desserts and beverages.

CG&SS presents The Yeomen of the Guard

The Yeomen of the Guard features artists from East Hampton (Beth Folta, Erica Folta, Victoria Kelpen), Middle Haddam (Tim Throckmorton), East Haddam (director Bob Cumming, and singers Marylin Currier and Bill Faye).

In its 33rd year, the Connecticut Gilbert & Sullivan Society … known for its professional-caliber productions with full orchestra, sets and costumes … presents The Yeomen of the Guard, an opera  set in the Tower of London in Tudor England.

This performance will be held Oct. 19 and 20. Please note that CGSS has  relocated its performance venue to Valley Regional High School, 256 Kelsey Hill Road, in Deep River, CT.
