The East Haddam Lions are hoping you have some cool stuff to donate to the club’s annual auction and tag sale, which will be held on July 13.

The tag sale opens at 8 a.m. and the auction will be held at 10 a.m. at the Old Grange Hall, 488 Town St. in East Haddam.

WFSB Channel 3′s Kevin Hogan will be the guest auctioneer.

The Friends of the Rathbun Free Library in East Haddam, CT are pleased to announce the return of their popular summer speaker series, “Fridays At 5:30.”

The series kicks off again on Friday, May 24 with author and local resident Judith Silva, who will talk about and answer questions about her book “The Voyage of Yankee Lady: Circumnavigating New England on a Sailboat.”

YPCCA production of Oliver benefits victims of Sandy Hook shootings

For the past five years, YPCCA has produced a Spring show to raise money for a scholarship is given to an East Hampton, CT student pursuing the creative arts or education at the college level. After the tragic events in Newton this past December, YPCCA decided to send the proceeds from this show to UConn's Sandy Hook School Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Fishing season opens – get info here about where to fish in Connecticut

Opening day of the Trout Fishing Season is Saturday, April 20 and the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) has the state’s rivers, streams, lakes and ponds stocked and ready.

Approximately 381,000 trout have already been released this spring into 102 lakes and ponds and 200 rivers and streams throughout Connecticut and are awaiting Opening Day anglers.

DEEP’s spring trout-stocking effort began in early March and will continue through the end of May. When spring stocking is completed, DEEP expects to have stocked about 630,000 trout.

Devil’s Hopyard State Park, in East Haddam, Connecticut, was a hot topic a year ago.

A fire that burned about 150 acres of the park kept local and state firefighters busy for quite a few days and even held the attention of news organizations for more than 24 hours.

A week after the embers and risk for rekindles died, my husband and I hiked along the orange trail to the vista to observe the fire’s aftermath.

The contrasts were striking. It was easy to see where the fire was the hottest – along upward slopes – and where it simply burned the leaf litter.

UConn Athletics today (April 11) unveiled a new version of the Husky logo.

UConn Athletics has been working with Nike to evaluate all parts of its brand, including word marks, logos and uniforms, for the past 14 months.

The new Husky Dog logo will be featured on uniforms for every one of UConn’s 24 athletic programs in 2013-14 and each of those uniforms will also prominently display the block UCONN word mark outlined in red.

The East Hampton Parks and Recreation will sponsor a hike beginning at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 7 2013 at the Wopowog Wild Life Management Area and the former site of Camp Wopowog.  The camp site is located on the East Hampton, CT banks of the Salmon River.
