The East haddam Ambulance Association is seeking to recruit new volunteers.

The East Haddam Volunteer Ambulance Association at 440 Town Street is seeking new volunteers to add to their team.  The group is currently working hard to recruit Emergency Medical Technicians and Emergency Medical Responders.  All training is provided by the association, and no previous experience is necessary.

In 1968, the year the association was formed, volunteer EMTs responded to 86 calls.  As the town grows larger, more EMTs are needed to meet the increase in calls, which have risen to 526 as of last year.  The growing need isn’t expected to slow down anytime soon, either. Both the Hadlyme Congregational Church and the North School of Hadlyme are sponsoring a talk about a World War II veteran from Moodus named Melvin Baron, who was killed in action in Italy 70 years ago on May 4, 1944, at the age of 19. Pvt. Baron, a 1943 graduate of Hale-Ray High School, was part of an elite special services unit in the Army. On Saturday, Oct. 26, the Connecticut River Coastal Conservation District held its 66th Annual Meeting at Devil’s Hopyard State Park in East Haddam in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Connecticut’s state parks.

Attendees heard about our conservation highlights of the past year; helped us honor our annual conservation award recipients; and enjoyed a special presentation and guided walk led by Alison Guinness – CRCCD board member, birder, naturalist, historian and friend of Connecticut’s state parks – about Devil’s Hopyard’s history, geology, flora and fauna, and the lore behind the park’s name.

The Connecticut River Coastal Conservation District, a nonprofit organization based in Middletown, works to conserve natural resources in the towns of Berlin, Chester, Clinton, Colchester, Cromwell, Deep River, Durham, East Haddam, East Hampton, Essex, Haddam, Hebron, Killingworth, Lyme, Madison, Marlborough, Middlefield, Middletown, New Britain, Newington, Old Lyme, Old Saybrook, Portland, Rocky Hill, Salem and Westbrook.

UConn sexual assaults should be investigated says Gov Malloy

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy on Oct. 25 made the following statement in response to the controversy surrounding complaints filed by UConn students claiming the university failed to responsibly handle their reports of being sexually assaulted.

Legislators are now calling for public hearings on the complaints.
