The future of Sunrise State Park in Moodus is a mystery… one East Haddam residents are asked to help resolve.

The future of Sunrise State Park in Moodus is a mystery.

Will it be a safe, clean place for hiking and paddle boating, or a camp ground, or an eco-tourism center, or a hotel/restaurant/sustainable agriculture project?

The list of possibilities is much longer, with many of the ideas overlapping.

The past is clear.  In hindsight, the state’s decision-making looks very poor, a case of the left hand not knowing what the right was doing.  The park’s use as a law enforcement training ground was a disaster.

Press Release

The United States Postal Service (USPS) announced today (Sept. 25) it has proposed price changes that include upping First-Class stamps from the current 46 cents to 49 cents each.

The proposed changes, which would go into effect in January 2014, are intended to generate $2 billion in incremental annual revenue for the USPS, which has been trying to climb out of deep budget shortfalls.

The USPS does not receive federal funds; its services are supported solely from revenues from its products.

For an in-depth look at the postal service’s financial situation – specifically a $20 billion budget gap – and how the federal government has contributed to its problems, watch a Town Talk interview with the regional representative in the CTV14 archives.

New state insurance plan launches October 1

ACCESS HEALTH CT insurance exchange Jason Madrak 09-06-2013

Jason Madrak, Chief Marketing Officer for Access Health CT – the entity charged with enrolling Connecticut residents under the state’s new insurance program – was a guest on CTV14′s “Town Talk,” hosted by Brenda Sullivan.

By Brenda Sullivan | HTNP News Editor

As host of the CTV14 governmental affairs program, “Town Talk,” I recently interviewed Chief Marketing Officer Jason Madrak of Access Health CT – this is the entity that is charged with enrolling Connecticut residents under the new statewide insurance plan as part of the country’s Affordable Care Act.

You can watch my interview with Mr. Madrak online by clicking on this link http://www.ctv14.com and then clicking on the Programming tab. In this drop-down menu, choose VOD archives. On the next page, use the drop-down menu on the left (All Folders) and choose “Town Talk” from the bottom of that list.

In addition to the interview with Access Health CT, there’s a very informative “Town Talk” interview with Windham State Rep. Susan Johnson that also simplifies some of the nuts and bolts of what’s on the horizon.

Below are comments from Access Health CT Chief Executive Officer Kevin Counihan, issued Sept. 18, on getting ready to launch the sign-up program on Oct. 1, 2013.

This first wave of enrollment will continue until Jan. 1, 2014.

You may have noticed an increase in TV ads urging you to sign up for a company’s insurance plan. You may want to know that unless you are enrolled through Access Health CT, you will NOT be entitled to subsidies (in some cases, 100 percent subsidies).
