Christmas-Tree-Fire-630x373The holiday season is a time for celebration, but fire hazards from Christmas trees and other decorations can “dampen the festive spirit.” The East Hampton Fire Marshal would like to remind residents to properly care for and decorate Christmas trees, and to practice fire safety in order to prevent yuletide emergencies.

His advice is as follows:

If a household holiday display includes a natural tree, keep the tree adequately watered. Improper care and decoration of live or artificial Christmas trees can lead to catastrophic fires. Ziobron Applauds Grants Announcement

The announcement of two separate grants that will help protect East Haddam lakes from invasive and destructive plant species is a welcome thing according to Rep. Melissa Ziobron (R).

One grant totaling $9,050 from the state will be used toward mitigating invasive plants in Lake Hayward, a naturally spring-fed lake that encompasses 174 acres and is 1.5 miles long, by a half mile wide, with a depth up to 37 feet. Surrounded by wooded shores, Lake Hayward serves a community of year round and summer residents. It is also a respite for local hikers, kayakers and fishing enthusiasts. … Continue Reading

Original Epoch Arts Production Airs in December

The students of Epoch Arts have created an original one act play called, “Giving, To Change the World.” Each fall students of Epoch Arts develop an original one act mini production which is created, written, collaborated and performed by the cast. The productions are about transformation, possibilities and community, that allows the “audience a place to experience work on the cutting edge of creativity,” according to Artistic Director Elizabeth Namen. Fourteen students created this original play, which will be performed Dec. 5 and 6, at 7 p.m.
